Gang of 12 members including a women have been arrested by electronic city police for extorting motorists on the NICE corridor. The gang uses the women identified as Monisha, a resident of Begur, to lure motorists on the NICE corridor.450 grams weighing gold ornaments, mobile phones and bike, valued at Rs 15 lakh have been recovered from the gang.
The arrested are identified as Savan, 24, Monisha, 20, Muthu, 20, Puneeth, 19, Tulasiram, 23, Arun Yesu Raj, 23, Stephen Raj, 22, Vignesh, 18, all residents of Begur Road, Amar, 25, of Doddaballapura, Shantha Kumar, 21, of Bannerghatta, Keshava Murthy, 25, of Tamil Nadu and Deepak George, 21, of RT Nagar.
The main accused, Savan had nearly 86% in his PUC exams, came in contact with a rowdy and late took to crime. He was earlier arrested by the Bannerghatta police in a robbery case. The public had chased and caught him red-handed. He consumed toilet cleaner at the police station to escape from being questioned.
“Savan had scored nearly 86 per cent in his PUC exams. While pursuing a degree, he came in contact with rowdy sheeter Raghu alias Chappar Rahu and got addicted to drugs, alcohol. He then discontinued his studies and joined hands with Begur’s rowdy sheeter Santhosh, Asgar, Anand and Sunil and has committed many crimes,” the officer said.
He has been arrested on many occasions and continued his criminal activities after coming out on bail. He is also involved in a murder case reported in Thali police station of Tamil Nadu.
All the members of the gang are drug-addicts and would take shelter at eucalyptus groves, under construction buildings during the night. The gang would later use the stolen bikes to commit crimes..
