Jail Officials Sentenced To Five Years For Helping Telgi

Two jail officials sentenced to five years imprisonment for helping stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Kareem Telgi run his illegal business from inside the prison.

The officers identified as PN Jayasimha and Nanjappa — were serving as SP of prisons and assistant SP of prisons at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. They spent over three years in imprisonment earlier when acquitted by a trial court. They were found guilty on Wednesday by the High Court and was convicted. Apart from imprisonment, the duo have to pay a fine of 50,000 each.

The officers were accused of helping Telgi run his fake stamp paper scam from inside the prison where he was lodged. The incidents date back to 2003.

The involvement of government officers in the scam was only known after the arrest of these two. They had supplied Telgi with a mobile phone so that he could communicate with his associates outside.

Apart from the above, Telgi was provided with creature comforts including a private television, video player and was felicitated to meet his associates a number of times. He was also being supplied food from home.
