36-year old Chand Sultana went to Saudi Arabia hoping for a better future has been subjected to harassment by her employer.
Chand Sultana, a mother of three went to Saudi Arabia after a local agent cajoled her and her husband that she will have a better future and get a good salary package as she is going to teach Quran. On April 7, she flew to Saudi. But the situation changed when she landed. Her dreams of having a better future was shattered when family members of her employer started harassing her and wouldn’t give her proper food. And she was made to do house chores rather than teaching Quran.
Her husband, Babajan Allabaksha Babannavar, told Bangalore Mirror,
“My wife has been subjected to harassment in Saudi Arabia. When I contacted the local agent, he pacified me saying the employer will get her a teaching job soon. He also said that they might have requested her to do some house chores as it was Ramzan.
Initially, she used to call us regularly but that stopped soon. Then she called us one-and-half months later and explained her ordeal over the phone. She said that she has been subjected to mental torture and harassment without proper food. They took her along on a tour within Saudi a few days ago but left her locked in a room.”
Someone dropped her at the Indian embassy in Saudi on Sunday. On request, the officer there allowed her to call me and I have instilled confidence in her saying that everything will be fine soon.”
Sanganna Karadi, Koppal MP said that he noticed the matter on Sunday evening when her husband met him. He will meet foreign affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday morning and will request her to take steps to bring that lady back to India at the earliest.
