Uproar against Udupi district administration and the district in-charge Pramod Madhwaraj, after a picture of a cop’s body being taken on a Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) bus went viral. Pramod Madhwaraj had to face a lot of cirticism for not providing an ambulance for the deceased.
The deceased identified as Mahanta Basappa from Bagalkot, died of renal failure on Friday. Reports say that since no ambulance was available, the body was carried in a bus from Manipal to Bagalkot. Mahanta was with the Munirabad KSRP centre.
7th KSRP Battalion commandant, Janardhan R told Bangalore Mirror
“There were about 10-12 family members of the deceased. The commandant from Munirabad made a request that, since it was not possible to send a vehicle from Koppal, on humanitarian grounds, a bus was provided so that the family could travel back home. The family had to travel a long distance and, after the death, there was no point using an ambulance. What will we do in case of an emergency if an ambulance is sent to Bagalkot for two to three days? Since he has served the KSRP, we decided to send the bus. This has been wrongly interpreted. ”
